Dirty Details of the
MudCross Challenge!

The Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is excited to announce a new event to Bureau County and surrounding areas!

The 2016 MudCross Challenge is a unique custom designed obstacle course. Participants of the challenge will encounter a variety of physical obstacles that will test their agility and competitive wild side! The challenge geared for people of all ages, even a special course designed just for kids. Warning...there will be mud!

Obstacle racing has grown tremendously, both domestically and abroad. The MudCross Challenge Committee is excited to be planning our second obstacle challenge of this caliber to our area. The event will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the nationally renowned Sunset Ridge Moto-Cross Track in Walnut, Illinois. The event will feature competitive heats in the morning, regular fun heats, followed by a 1-mile kids' course, with refreshments for everyone. Participants and spectators alike can enjoy on site concessions.

Since 1948 the goal of the Auxiliary has been to assist in our non-profit hospital's mission of providing compassionate quality care to the people and communities we serve. Fundraising is vital to achieving the Auxiliary's goal. The Auxiliary has been able to provide financial assistance to purchase new medical equipment, patient care equipment, as well as to purchase furniture and updates for common patient and family areas. We have awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships every year to Bureau County citizens pursing health care careers.

On behalf of the PMH Auxiliary and the MudCross Challenge Committee, we thank you for your support. Through your generosity we can continue to fulfill our mission which will benefit our patients, families, students and community.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

What is a mud run?

The MudCross Challenge isn't a 5k; in fact, it isn't a typical race at all! It is a fun-filled obstacle challenge that involves playing through a lot of mud! It's a great time for friends, families, kids and adults of all ages to join together to conquer the course - whether they decide to conquer it together or alone and whether they want to walk it or run it. And yes, those up for the bigger challenge can conquer the course for competition against themselves and others.

I heard Mud Runs are for extreme runners, Is that so?

Not a chance - you can't talk yourself out of this one that easy! If you are able to walk 3-4 miles (wearing a "little" mud with you) you can do a mud run! You don't have to be a well-trained fitness guru to join in this fun, you just have to be able to walk the course and with that, you will get the sweet smell of victory as you are handed your awesome new medal.

Everyone really gets a medal?

Really! Everyone who finishes the course will be honored with a medal to wear for for the rest of the day, collecting a muddy mess you can cherish forever! For those really proud mudders, if so desired, can wear their medal more often...and that's perfectly okay, too...really!

So is this just for fun and not for competition?

Not at all...Well, wait...yes, it's for fun...but not JUST for fun. It is also for those that want to compete, because that is fun, too! we will be offering 4 competitive heats starting at 8:00AM to allow the serious mudder the opportunity to contend alongside other serious mudders.

All Adult heats are timed, but we separate the competitive heats to keep the course flowing at a competitive rate. We want everyone to have fun and to achieve whatever goals they set for themselves, so keeping the new, novice or nutty mudder separate from the serious mudder helps us achieve that!

The Children's Fun Run is for...well just that...Fun, so it is untimed! Also, if you don't wish to hop in the mud yourself, spectators are more than welcome to bring lawn chairs and watch our participants traverse the course!

Interested in volunteering?

Awesome! We will need lots of volunteers and support! Some volunteers might get a little sweaty, and most likely, a little muddy! If you are interested in Volunteering, please don't hersitate to sign up through our Chronotrack Race & Volunteer Registration Page!
